Plug Eleven into unbranded GSM board?

The "Eleven" is our Uno-equivalent Arduino-compatible board, but with a number of improvements including prototyping area, a mini-USB connector, LEDs mounted near the edge, and the D13 LED isolated using a FET. [Product page]

Plug Eleven into unbranded GSM board?

Post by judgey » Fri Oct 24, 2014 6:39 am

Hi there team,

I am new to arduino and have started a project but have gotten stuck. I own a freetronics eleven board and am trying to connect it to a gsm board I bought online (link below)

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/SIM900-Q ... 62726.html

I have attached two files that were documentation I got with the GSM board if that helps.

Basically I am wanting to know how to connect the two boards so that I can send a txt and the arduino powers on a led.

Thanks for any help. :D

That shield has a standard SIM900 GSM module, so there's plenty on the Internet explaining how to use it.
Have a look at:
http://www.gsmlib.org/
http://tronixstuff.com/2014/01/08/tutor ... m-modules/

Finally make sure you have the required external power supply, you'll kill the power regulator circuit on your Eleven if it's trying to power the GSM shield.

Hi John,

Yea I have looked through those tutorials but what I am stuck on is how to wire the Eleven to the GSM shield. i.e which pin to which pin. The Eleven has more pins on each side than the GSM shield as well as a gap between the Analog input 0 and VIN...

So I don't quite understand if I just clip them all together 1 for 1 or what?

The shield isn't designed for R3-spec Arduino, but that doesn't affect how you use it. The shield should just fit, e.g A5 to A5.

Well, that's based on the information on the product page.
Don't forget the 2A power supply!
