Cannot write sketch to board?

The "Eleven" is our Uno-equivalent Arduino-compatible board, but with a number of improvements including prototyping area, a mini-USB connector, LEDs mounted near the edge, and the D13 LED isolated using a FET. [Product page]

Cannot write sketch to board?

Post by DGdB » Mon Apr 01, 2013 4:34 am

I get this message when I try to write a sketch to my board.

avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00

Thanks,

I too get this message when I try to write a sketch to my board.
avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x30
I have uploaded USB driver, & have correct port (3) selected & also selected correct board (uno). The green & yellow LEDs do not flash on uploading
Thanks Bob

I'm afraid that error message can mean a few things.
Has your board worked in the past?

This error occurs if either you haven't installed the drivers, have the wrong COM: port selected, have the wrong board type selected in the IDE, something else is plugged into the computers other USB port and trying to use the same COM: port, or if your board doesn't have the Arduino bootloader on the microcontroller.

Moving forward, unplug all USB devices (except the mouse if you're on a desktop), then follow the instructions here >

Thanks for your reply tronixstuff, in answer to your question, no the board has not worked
Befor this 1st try, I am using laptop and will try without mouse, but I think I already have.
I am surprised there is no index to error messages. The blink script of course was all ready loaded on the board so that worked as soon as I plugged in. Any other way to check the board?
Thanks Bob

Then try and upload the blink sketch.
.

Result
Binary sketch size: 1,084 bytes (of a 32,256 byte maximum)
avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x30
Any significance in resp=0x30

Do you have anything connected to digital pins 0 and 1 while you're trying the upload? If so - remove them and try again. Failing that, you could always try removing the drivers, restarting the machine and starting installation over again. Failing that I'd go for a replacement board.
If you bought it from a retailer such as Jaycar you can return it to them otherwise email support@freetronics.com to organise a replacement.
Success!!!!!! Thanks for preserving with me Tronixstuff.
I reinstalled driver several times, changed com port several times.
Loop test was working before, but not now???
