Re: MAX Number of DMD

My friend once decided to highlight this issue for about 2 days and he found the final number. The result was the number 343. Rubbish! Try about 4 to 6. Depends on display quality, what else you want to do, libraries, etc, etc. If you post nonsense or spam or off-topic material, you will very likel...

Re: New beta release "DMD2" Library

Do not try to do too much at once. Start very basic and keep it as simple as possible. Do only one step at a time. Go back to the examples, take a copy of one (such as the countdown one) and start playing with that by changing things until you understand what the various parts are doing. Try getting...

Re: New beta release "DMD2" Library

Please tell me on an example how to output a variable to a matrix. Thanks!
Again, not much information to go on, but you probably need to convert the variable to a char array before trying to display it.

Re: New beta release "DMD2" Library

You do not provide much information to allow any worthwhile comments, but if you are using the Freetronics type DMD board and a Uno (or similar) the DMD2 supplied example sketches should display in normal graphics, not inverted. If the display is inverted for all the example sketches then it looks l...

Re: New beta release "DMD2" Library

The nOE pin is incorrectly named in some places and should be OE as it is active HIGH - connecting to GND should turn the display completely OFF while a HIGH will be full brightness as you have found. This indicates that the DMD is working. Brightness control is achieved by controlling the PWM outpu...

Great news. Always very satisfying when you fix something that has been frustrating you for a while.

Re: Arduino mega using dmd library

The mega can successfully run the DMD library and drive the DMDs - same as a Uno except for the SPI pins. Plenty have done that. My next suggestion would be to start a new test sketch and run just the DMD demo sketch - nothing else added and no changes. If that does not work then you definitely have...

Re: Arduino mega using dmd library

Did you change the #defines in DMD.h for the DMD pins to suit those you are using with the mega?? Set like this by default but can be edited: #define PIN_DMD_A 6 // D6 #define PIN_DMD_B 7 // D7 #define PIN_DMD_CLK 13 // D13_SCK is SPI Clock if SPI is used #define PIN_DMD_SCLK 8 // D8 #define PIN_DMD...

Re: Arduino mega using dmd library

It sounds like you might have an unconnected input if a finger touch changes things. Make sure all pins are connected correctly and all the mega ouput pins being used are correctly set as outputs. Use a pulldown resistor on the OE line - but that should not be the cause of your issue here. And also ...

Re: DMD2 and EtherTen

Once you sort out sharing the SPI, you should be able to use any available digital pin that is free for the others by using: SoftDMD(byte panelsWide, byte panelsHigh, byte pin_noe, byte pin_a, byte pin_b, byte pin_sck, byte pin_clk, byte pin_r_data) I don't think you have any choice with the SPI pin...
